Emma’s Birth Story

Birthing my beautiful boy Joshua

Joshua’s due date was 7th of October but he was born on the 14th at 41 weeks.

I decided to go for a first sweep on the 12th and then went for a second one the morning of the 14th.

The day before I experienced cramps and some discomfort so things were moving.

The morning before the second sweep I did a lot of cleaning and moping. I wanted my home and space to feel clean and homely to welcome my baby into it.

An hour after the sweep I started having contractions. They started off very manageable, I kept moving and walked all around the house and it was a sunny day. I wore the same dress I wore the day I birthed my first daughter.

2 - 3 hours went by and I called my doula to come over. The contractions were getting a lot stronger and a lot more intense. And we decided to call the hospital. The first hospital told us they were full and we had to call another one which was a lot further away to drive.
The second hospital then said they had no space and we had to call the original one back. I was starting to lose my patience, but I was keeping very focused on my breathing as the contractions were coming a lot faster now. I knew I couldn’t lose focus.

My husband, Chris, made the car very comfortable and I was able lie down on the back, on lots of blankets. We made it to the closest hospital and the receptionist went on to say that the birthing suite was closed. My husband kept very calm but told them that they needed to find a room with a pool in it because I was about to give birth.

We managed to get into the room and now the contractions were taking over and I wanted to get ready to birth my baby.

I was very specific and the midwives respected my wishes.

I wanted a water birth. Dim lights. And little to no interventions. I wanted to avoid what happened with my first birth. I didn’t want a vaginal check so they just checked babies heart and my blood pressure.

The midwives then left the room and we were left on our own. My husband and doula ran the bath, dimmed the lights and made it feel very relaxing.

I got into the bath and within 2 minutes I could feel my baby’s head crowning and secretly I didn’t tell anyone because I still wanted little interference and the next thing I pushed twice and he was born, healthy and happy.

I practiced hypnobirthing for both pregnancies but I felt that It helped a lot more the second time round. Jessica was lovely from the start. She helped me get through my fears and helped me to make the right decisions for me, I think if I hadn’t of done the course I wouldn’t have had such a calm and beautiful birth experience. Jessica is very knowledgeable and has a lovely and special way of teaching.

Doing the course really helped me to stay calm and helped me to know what my choices were and helped me to be informative and assertive. It helped me to prepare to bring my baby into the world and what came after, the 4th trimester.

I highly recommend Baby in Bloom. Was the best decision I could have made.
